H and HL hinges were used on all types of interior doors in colonial homes. Perfectly suited for closet doors, passage doors, and pantry doors. I have even seen them on large media cabinets.
These are fully hand made in a coal forge. The edges are beveled and the texture and quality of the forge work is very evident. Linseed oil is allowed to penetrate the iron and the resulting color is a natural, dark hue that shows the hand work well.
H and HL hinges are surface mounted with black pyramid head screws, which are included.
We can make special sizes or hole configurations. Contact Orion for pricing and additional information.
Other door hinges are available. We make strap hinges, pintle hinges, butt hinges, and lift-off hinges for larger doors too.
HL hinges, August 11, 2020 By Mitch Vinicor (Bearsville, NY)(Verified)
I am very impressed with these iron hinges, which I used to replace a very, very old HL hinge and much newer, rather unattractive repro wrought iron one on a plank door to my bathroom in the 200year-old former farmhouse I moved into in 1982. The original, which must have been very old, was painted over several times and finally broke apart. The other one must have been installed by the previous owner to substitute for another old HL hinge. The Horton Brasses hinges are high quality and look great the genuine thing I expect them to last long after I'm gone! (Not that I'm in a rush...!)
