My grandfather, Jim Horton was Horton Brasses' second generation. He was an essential part of this company for more than 40 years, until he retired in 1992. His service to Horton Brasses was interrupted only by his service in the army during the Korean war. Jim's father, (my great-grandfather) Frank A. Horton, founded Horton Brasses in 1936. Jim grew and expanded the Berlin operation, and by 1964 the company had grown so much that he moved us into the former J. & E. Stevens' buildings in Cromwell, CT where we remain today. Jim was a very talented man who was always planning for the future. He added many capabilities to Horton Brasses production: he built our foundry and machining operations, introduced new reproductions and greatly expanded the stamping and assembly operations.
Jim was 80 years old when he died on August 2, 2008 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. My grandparents were living in Osprey, Florida at the time of his death. My grandmother devoted herself to his fulltime care. He was a well loved man and his passing was very peaceful.
Jim leaves his wife Barbara (Cote) Horton - the love of his life. He also leaves three daughters: Barbara (my mom), Nancy and Mary, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchilren. He was 80 years old.
Burial will be in Berlin and services will be at a later date.
