  • Not sure what type of hinge you need? Read about the types of hinges we sell, and what it takes to make a quality hinge.
  • Watch our hand forged iron being made:
  • All iron hardware is supplied with pyramid head screws. If you need additional screws, please order them.
  • Please contact Orion if you have any questions about iron hardware.
  • Because each piece of iron hardware is made one at a time, quantity pricing is not available.

Used most often on corner cupboards and in kitchens, these are stunning. The 'flag' is installed on the cabinet door and the 'rat's tail' is secured on the frame that surrounds the cabinet door with the lower screw and the threaded eye. For flush mounted or doors with a 3/8" offset rabbeted edge.

Stand in front of the door. If the hinges are going to be on the right side, choose a RT-R hinge, and if they are going to be on the left side, choose a RT-L.

Why use Horton's forge iron? Please visit our blog to learn about how we make it.

On the New Yankee Workshop, Norm Abrams used our offset rat-tail hinges (right handed) on the doors of his Painted Cupboard, project #0707.

See how to install rat-tail hinges.

Left or Right

Length of the 'rat's tail' is 4". Height of 'flag' is 1-3/8". Width of 'flag' including the barrel is 2".

Rat-tail Hinges

These are excellent hinges they could have been made 200 years ago.
I have changed the shape of them to fit special projects and with some
heat and oil quench they take on the color they came with. Obviously
they are very expensive but they are authentic.....
