Our rolled barrel butt hinges are simply the best. About the thickness of a dime, the five knuckles are well aligned, snug, and work smoothly year after year.

My second project using these and they are well made and to exact tolerances, i.e., two inch hinge = two inches. I tried to get around the complaint from NH and mortised these a bit deeper to close the gap . Oops. Point of screw came through 13/16 wood. Cut off the screw tips and everything was fine.

This is a good hinge, with good speed and service from HB. My question is this: if you close the hinge (the way it will be sitting in the joint) and measure the gap between the leaves, you will see it is nearly 1/8th. inch. This means once you mortise in the leaves, the door itself can be no closer to the stile it swings on than that 1/8th. inch. That's too much for careful work. I crushed the leaves together in a vise and got it down to nearly 1/16th. But it sure would be better if they could be made with a 1/16th. gap in the first place.

While I haven't had a chance to install these hinges yet, initial inspection is positive. There is very little play and they operate smooth and true.
The polished nickel finish is attractive and has a mirror like finish.
