Never content to rest on our laurels-Horton Brasses has a new precision butt hinge! Our solid brass precision butt hinges have set the standard for quality, selection and price for some time now. But we kept hearing they were too narrow for thicker doors. We listened, we responded. These hinges are perfect for 1" thick or even 1-1/4" thick doors, as the open width is a hefty 1-3/4" wide. In addition, the center hole is now slotted, so that you can made fit adjustments more easily. Holes are perfectly drilled and countersunk for #6 screws; color matched 3/4" long Phillips head screws which are included; slotted screws are available on request.
Horton Brasses' beautiful antique-style hinges are the essential complement to doors, cabinets, and reproduction furniture. For finding the best stylistic match, choose from standard and ball-tip butt hinges, as well as seven finishes ranging from light to antique to bright.
Nice butt hinge, April 8, 2016 By David Bartlett (Easton, CT)
These are very beefy hinges, great for thicker doors. The adjustment slot is very convenient for fine tuning especially when getting a pair of large doors to meet properly. Screw size is perfect and the inclusion of a set of steel screws for fitting in the shop is really a nice feature
Nice hinges, December 13, 2014 By David Rogers (Brooklyn, NY)
I just used these in a project of heavy white oak shutters. The hinges themselves are confidence inspiring. I did have trouble shearing off several screws where the shank meets the thread. Fortunately, they drilled out without damaging the pilot hole, and after calibrating my technique by waxing the screws before installation, I didn't have any more problems. To the defense of the screws, the quarter sawn oak is very hard, it was a bit of a debacle to get 18 gauge crown staples into it successfully for louvers and tilt rods.
If I were pressed to name one negative aspect to the hinges, I would say that in at least my application, I have no need for the oblong screw holes, and would prefer to not have them there.
